What's that?

The people we call "gypsies" call themselves "Roma".  But "gypsy," and similar names for  these people in other languages, have very negative associations.  So it is just politeness to call them what they call themselves: "Roma".

​

Their language is "Romany".And these names have nothing to do with the country of Romania, or with the capital of Italy.
